I.B.S Relief That's Safe and 100% Drug-Free!

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS for short) is a disorder of the intestines, bowels and gut which has symptoms that are broad and far reaching. They can range from mild discomfort through to severe cramping. Bowels movements can be as diverse as volatile diarrhoea one day and full on constipation the next.  It can be mildly annoying to life altering.

It’s one of those disorders where there don’t seem to be any hard and fast rules.

Many IBS sufferers get to a point where they stop engaging in social activities due to the diet / bathroom constraints which can fluctuate on a daily basis. For many, dating is even out of the question. So, how do we get back to being free to live life?

There are many options available to you.  Medications, diet changes, probiotics, and of course hypnosis. The latter 3 are the healthiest options and are best for long term solutions.

Because IBS has such a broad range of symptoms there is no one medication that will treat them all, therefore physicians tend to treat individual symptoms with medications such as anti-diarrheol, pain meds and laxatives. All of which have their own associated side effects, some of which can even trigger IBS symptoms. For example, while a laxative might relieve constipation, it might just be a trigger for the diarrhoea episode which can frequently follow. And many pain medications have been known to cause constipation. And then the circle starts all over again!

Probiotics have been found to be beneficial to the gastrointestinal tract and health in general, not just intestinal health. A quick Google search of Probiotics will lay it all out for you. However, Probiotics alone won’t sort out your IBS issues.

Of course, it’s always a good idea to rule out dietary intolerances which may be contributing to the symptoms. Once allergens and intolerances have been ruled out the next step is to look at the psychological options. This is commonly referred to the mind-body connection, or even the brain-gut interaction. This is where hypnotherapy steps in with what is known as “Gut directed therapy”. Gut directed hypnotherapy has been shown in many clinical trials to be an effective method of reducing IBS symptoms.  And as an added bonus, there are none of the negative side effects of standardised medication

How does Hypnosis benefit Irritable Bowel sufferers?

Well, the answer to that is multi-faceted. First, the Gut-Directed Therapy side of things is focused primarily on directing your body to return to its smoothly-running conditions.  This can involve the use of metaphors, visualisations and such. The next level of benefit comes from a reduction in stress. And as you know, increased stress levels intensifies IBS symptoms, that works in reverse as well; reduce stress and the symptoms reduce as well.

So, how do we get started?

If you live in the Vancouver area I suggest booking private sessions with myself.  Typically, with private sessions, I will work with an IBS client weekly about 5-7 times. The sessions are customised to your personal situation/triggers.  You will also receive IBS-specific self-hypnosis MP3's which have been recorded so you can listen to them between sessions for additional benefit.
